Requiem: Michael Forester Collected Poems 2001–2025

Requiem: Michael Forester Collected Poems 2001–2025

Michael Forester does not merely write poems. He opens doorways. Each poem in Requiem is a threshold, leading us, barefoot and unguarded, into the quiet rooms of memory, longing, disillusionment, hope and silence. Forester's words are not ornamental; they are elemental. They touch the soft, breakable places within us with tenderness, honesty and the kind of compassion that has been earned through experience.

This collection is a slow, sacred walk through the hidden gardens of the soul. It is a prayer for our fractured, aching world. It is a reminder that, even amidst the ruins, the heart can still sing. It reminds you that even in the darkest night, the soul still knows how to pray, sometimes not with words but with a single breath, a single tear, a poem.

Welcome to the requiem. It is time to listen.

6 Time’s fool

20
When I first began to look for a man
I was seeking for someone to love me.
So I danced in the disco from LA to Frisco
just looking for someone to love me.
I was on the attack. I was great in the sack –
but I just wanted someone to love me.
Now I’m smothered in make-up and quick on the take-up
and pretty soon someone will love me.
My heels are six inch; getting guys is a cinch!
And someone out there’s gonna love me.

30
Now I drink Gin and Tonic; my style is iconic.
I’m confident someone will love me.
My beauty’s cosmetic, my boobs are synthetic
and all cos I want you to love me.
Hey, you look debonair. Let’s have an affair!
Cos I really do want you to love me.
Your house is palatial – just pay for my facial –
I’m certain that soon you will love me.
You drive a Ferrari? Take me on safari
for honeymoon – that’s where you’ll love me!

40
We’ve got friends, ten a penny, but haven’t got any
who’ll help me to get you to love me.
I’ll give birth to your baby, then maybe – just maybe –
there’ll be someone here who will love me.
My beauty is heightened. I’ve had my teeth whitened
in order to get you to love me.
I’ve been under the knife just because I’m your wife.
So why is it you still won’t love me?

50
You used to caress me – so why have you left me?
I just wanted to know that you loved me.
Now, I dress in Chanel and I wear it so well
cos I really want someone to love me.
I’m smothered in Lancôme, so why won’t a man come
who’ll take me away and just love me?

60
Now my age I’m defying – so why am I crying?
All I want is for someone to love me.

70
There’s no one to love me. Love’s too far above me.
Please, tell me why I cannot love me.
